When you initially open the Window Painter or the User Object Painter, the toolbox has only one User Object icon.  If you add the variable named ListUserObjects to the Window section of PB.INI and set it to 1, the first time you place a user object in a Window or in another User Object, PowerBuilder builds 2 new User Object icons and creates a new menu item for the Objects menu.

TIP:   After you add ListUserObjects to the WINDOW section of PB.INI, the ListUserObjects will display in Preferences as a Window variable.

The next time you access the Window Painter or the User Object Painter, PowerBuilder displays the new icons in the toolbox and the name of the user object in the Objects Menu.  To select and place a user object in a window or another user object:

Click the User Object icon that represents the object you want to use

or

Select the user object from the Controls Menu

PowerBuilder automatically adds the first four user objects that you place in a Window or User Object to the toolbox and the Controls Menu.  PowerBuilder saves these values in Preferences and you can change them if necessary.

TIP:   To display the name of the User Object associated with the icon, use MicroHelp.

To place a User Object that does not have an icon in a window or another User Object:

  1. Click the User Object icon near the bottom of the toolbox or select User Object from the Controls Menu.
  2. Click the point in the window or User Object at which you want to place the User Control.
  3. Double-click the User Object control to open the Select User Object window.
  4. Select a user object.
